It has been debated over and over again how to watch the Star Wars movies in order. Some fans say you should start with episode four as it’s the original movie while others think you should watch all the movies starting at Episode One. Things are about to get more confusing because the Star Wars movies order is about to change with new movies on the horizon. The newest Star Wars movie installment, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” is set to hit movie theaters on December 16, 2016. While this film is coming out this year, the events take place before Episode IV- Star Wars: A New Hope. All of this may sound confusing, but don’t worry we are here to help! Here is a timeline of the Star Wars movies in order. The list starts with Episode I, and is in chronological order according to how the action happened! Check it out below!

Every Star Wars Movies In Order From Beginning To End
Episode I- Star Wars: The Phantom Menace– Released in movie theaters on May 19, 1999. This film is the 1st installment in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. The Phantom Menace takes place 32 years before Episode IV: A New Hope, where we meet Anakin, Obi-Wan and Palpatine.
Episode II- Star Wars: Attack of the Clones– released in movie theaters on May 16, 2002. This movie is the 2nd installment in the Star Wars prequel Trilogy. Attack of the Clones takes place ten years after Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.
Episode III- Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith– released in movie theaters on May 19, 2005. This film is the 3rd and final installment in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Revenge of the Sith takes places three years after the onset of the Clone Wars. We see the fall of the Jedi and the rise of Darth Vader.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story– released in movie theaters on December 16, 2016. This movie is the 1st Anthology film in the Star Wars series. Rogue One takes place not long before Episode IV: A New Hope.
Episode IV- Star Wars: A New Hope– released in movie theaters on May 25, 1977. This is the 1st installment in the Star Wars original trilogy. A New Hope is the original Star Wars movie, where we are introduced to the Rebel Alliance. Also, it is the movie when Han, Luke and Leia first meet.
Episode V- Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back– released in movie theaters on May 21, 1980. This is the 2nd installment in the Star Wars original trilogy. The Empire Strikes Back takes place 3 years after Episode IV: A New Hope. Luke learns the ways of the Force from Jedi Master Yoda and Darth Vader is at the top of the villain game.
Episode VI- Star Wars: Return of the Jedi– released in movie theaters on May 25, 1983. This film is the 3rd and final installment in the Star Wars original trilogy. Return of the Jedi takes place one year after Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.
Episode VII- Star Wars: The Force Awakens– released in movie theaters on December 18, 2015. This is the 1st installment in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. The Force Awakens takes place about 30 years after Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. It showcases the journey of Rey, Poe and Finn as they look for Luke Skywalker.
Episode VIII- Untitled Star Wars film– set to be released in movie theaters December of 2017. This will be the 2nd installment in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. It will feature the next saga chapter with Rey, Poe, Finn and Luke as they continue on their journey.
Untitled Han Solo Film– set to be released in movie theaters on May 25, 2018. This movie will be the 2nd Anthology film in the Star Wars series and will focus on the early days of Han Solo.
Episode IX- Untitled Star Wars film- set to be released in movie theaters in 2019- plot currently unknown. This film will be the 3rd and final installment in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
Untitled Boba Fett Film– set to be released in movie theaters in 2020. This movie will be the 3rd Anthology film in the Star Wars series.

I like Star Wars for the most part. I don’t worry about order, but more so mood! Order doesn’t matter, just enjoy the series the way you know how!
I LOVE STAR WARS!! My family especially my kids are the biggest fans! We watched them in the order they were released. And we own all of them on DVD/Blueray.
