Shapes Matching

Matching math games for toddlers are great for teaching important memory skills, and now you can use this to teach your toddler all about shapes. How you get your matching game doesn’t matter. You can buy a shapes matching game at the store or you can make your own on cardstock. Once you have your game, mix up the cards and then lay them out in rows. Take turns flipping over two cards at a time until you get a shape match. Be sure to call out all of the shapes you flip over so your toddler can hear each shape name.

Build A Shape

If your child likes hands-on math activities, your toddler will absolutely love building shapes. You can use any type of building material to create different shapes. Toothpicks and marshmallows can be use to create rectangles, squares, and stars, while yarn and ribbon can be used to create circles and ovals. Simply hand your toddler some building materials and then see their creativity at work.

Shape Twister

To play Shape Twister, you can create your own mat or you can modify a Twister mat by drawing shapes on the colors. For example, you could draw squares on all the red circles, triangles on the green, rectangles on the blue, and circles on the yellow. Use the twister spinner to call out a task, such as, “Right hand, triangle!” Your toddler will have a blast getting tied into a knot as they learn all about basic shapes.

Shape Hunt

Shapes are everywhere, including inside your home. Televisions and tables can be rectangles and squares while light fixtures and mirrors can be circles and ovals. Send your toddler on a shape hunt in your room and see how many shapes you can spot. Will you be able to spot five rectangles or two circles? Play this game and find out.

Shapes are fun and easy to learn, especially when you use these math games for toddlers. Your toddler will love exploring, twisting, and building their way to a better understanding of what shapes are. Need more games?
