The director of Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie is David Soren, who also directed the 2013 movie Turbo. In addition, Soren was the story artist on the 2001 movie Shrek and the 2006 movie Over the Hedge.
The idea for a Captain Underpants movie came about back in 1997, after the release of the 1st movie in the series- The Adventures of Captain Underpants. At the time, the author of the book series- Dav Pilkey- wanted actor Chris Farley to play the role of Captain Underpants. However, the project was later scrapped after Chris Farley’s tragic death. Farley died at the age of 33 on December 18, 1997 of a drug overdose.
This is the 6th movie from DreamWorks Animation that has been adapted from a children’s book. The 1st was Shrek in 2001, based on the 1990 book of the same name by William Steig; the 2nd was How to Train Your Dragon in 2010, based on the British book series by Cressida Cowell; the 3rd was Rise of the Guardians in 2012, based on the book series, The Guardians of Childhood by William Joyce; the 4th was Home in 2015, based on the 2007 book, The True Meaning of Smekday by Adam Rex and the 5th was The Boss Baby in 2017, based on the 2010 picture book by Marla Frazee.

Kevin Hart, who voices the role of George Beard and Ed Helms, who voices the role of Mr. Benny Krupp/Captain Underpants, previously starred in another movie together. In the 2008 movie, Meet Dave, Hart played the role of Number 17 and Helms played the role of Number 2.
Ed Helms also worked with Nick Kroll, who voices the role of Professor Poopypants, on a previous movie. In the 2015 movie, Vacation, Helms played the role of Rusty Griswold and Kroll played the role of Colorado Cop.
This is the 2nd superhero from DreamWorks Animation. The 1st was the 2010 computer animated, superhero, comedy movie- Megamind.
Oh my goodness I am so behind on coming movies I am going to have to keep an eye out for it sounds like a great movie with an awesome voice cast.

I used to read the comics of Captain Underpants when I was a kid, so I was surprised to see that they had made a movie out of it. I think that Dreamworks did a great job on Megamind. We’ll see if this is a hit as well.
I love Captain Underpants. It’s probably been 15 years since we enjoyed them in our house but I still want to see the movie.
