This week at Dancing with the Stars, season 21, week 4 Alfonso Ribeiro is hosting tonight for Tom Bergeron, who is at the bedside of his ailing father. This week’s theme is Most Memorable Year, so it is going to be emotional I’m sure.
HERE IS OUR RECAP OF DANCING WITH THE STARS SEASON 21- WEEK 4:
- First up is Alexa and Mark, doing the Foxtrot to Mama Said by The Shirelles. Alexa chose the year 2000 since it was the year she signed on with Spy Kids. She did really well with her choreography but she was off at times tonight. She also lost a few steps at the end. While it was her first ballroom routine of the season, she did okay for the most part but made mistakes you don’t usually see from her. They receive scores of 7 from all 3 judges. Carrie Ann liked her theatricality, Julianne called the dance fun but noted her mistakes and Bruno said “she missed the train but did find her way.”
- Gary and Anna did a jazz routine to That’ll Be The Day by Buddy Holly. Gary chose the year 1979, the year he was nominated for an Oscar for his starring role in The Buddy Holly Story. Gary talked about his 1988 motorcycle accident, which left him with a brain injury. Honestly, it was a touching story but I don’t know how he made it this far in the competition. Tonight, he is not doing much on the dance floor at all. And, during the routine, he almost drops his partner, Anna. They receive a score of 6 from Julianne and 5’s from both Carrie Ann and Bruno. Carrie Ann said she hasn’t seen an improvement in him, Julianne likes his persistence and Bruno says he needs to nail his execution.
- Tamar and Val perform the rumba to King by Tamar Braxton. She chose the year 2012, the year she almost lost her husband, Vincent, to blood clots. All season, I have found there has been a lack of chemistry between Tamar and Val, but tonight, they really worked on that chemistry. She is doing a great job with the rumba, I am impressed. This is the best she has done so far this season, her hip movement is perfect and she is taking elegant steps. She gets a hug from hubby at the end of the routine. They received scores of 9’s from all the judges. Carrie Ann said her story and her dance touched her, Julianne hints that she is giving her a 9 and Bruno thought it was the proper rumba.
- Hayes and Emma did a contemporary routine to Stitches by Shawn Mendes. Hayes picked 2014 as his most memorable year, and rightly so. That is the year that he became a YouTube sensation. Tonight, Hayes showed the world what he has in him. Of course, Emma did a good job with the choreography, making it emotional but appropriate. Hayes is putting everything he has into this dance. They receive scores of 9’s from all the judges. Julianne says he broke out of his shell tonight, Bruno said it was a breakthrough and Carrie Ann said she felt the nuances.
- Alek and Lindsay performed the Paso double to Wake Me Up by Avicii. For obvious reasons, Alek picks this year as his most memorable. We saw the train attack footage and how it changed him. We also see Alek reacting to the news of the Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon shooting during rehearsals. Alek takes classes at the college and was supposed to be in the building the day the shootings took place but had rehearsals for the show instead. Very emotional! Alek is doing well with the steps of the dance but the story isn’t there. The Paso double is a dance that features strong movements and those just aren’t there with Alek. Overall, he did well though and received scores of 8 from the three judges. Bruno said while it was good, Alek needs to work on extending his lines, Carrie Ann said it was strong and sturdy and Julianne thought the connection was strong.
- Nick and Sharna did a jazz routine to Backstreet’s Back by The Backstreet Boys. Nick chose the year 1992, the year he became a Backstreet Boy. Nick talks about his childhood, one that included a dysfunctional family. This was the perfect song for a jazz routine. The choreography was entertaining and totally fun. They received scores of 9 from all three judges. Carrie Ann said he is a great dancer, Julianne loved it and Bruno called it a sexy hit.
- Carlos and Whitney performed the waltz to Amazing Grace by Ray Chew Live. Carlos chose the year 2012, the year he totally hit rock bottom. He decided to attend church and change his life for the better. Carlos did a great job with the waltz and it was the ideal dance for the song. It wasn’t his best dance by any means but it was still strong, and that’s exactly what Carlos needs right now. Carrie Ann gave them a score of 9, while Bruno and Julianne both gave them 8’s. Julianne called it beautiful, Bruno called it mesmerizing and Carrie Ann loved it.
- Paula and Louis did a cha-cha routine to Respect by Aretha Franklin. Paula’s most memorable year was 1989, the year she left her husband and made some tough decisions. Paula is another one that I honestly don’t know how she is still in the competition. Again, tonight, she misses some steps and is just a weak dancer overall. They received scores of 6’s from all the judges. Bruno says she needs to have more fun, Carrie Ann says Paula loses focus and Julianne says that while Paula is fierce, she needs to get out of her head.
- Andy and Allison performed a cha-cha routine to Andy Grammar’s song, Good to Be Alive. Andy picked 2009 as his year, the year he found out his mom had breast cancer. It was caught too late and within a few days, she had passed away. I am not sure what I think of this dance. He does well with the choreography but it makes the cha-cha kind of weird in a way. While Andy is likable, I don’t think he will last more than another week or two in the competition. Their scores weren’t too bad as Carrie Ann gave them a 7 and Julianne and Bruno both gave them 8’s. Carrie Ann said the dance was awkward, Julianne didn’t agree with her and thought Andy looked comfortable on the dance floor and Bruno liked it but said Andy tends to go flat-footed.
- Bindi and Derek did a contemporary dance to Every Breath You Take by Aaron Krause. You know how they usually save the best for last? Tonight, they not only saved the best for last but they saved the most emotional for last. I don’t think there was a dry eye anywhere after this. Bindi picked the year 2006, the year she lost her father. Most of us knew who Steve Irwin was, he was the Crocodile Hunter so we felt the emotions right along with her. Bindi breaks down in rehearsal, causing Derek to become emotional as well. Let me tell you something though, she totally nailed it on the dance floor. She danced with so much heart and so much emotion. She was completely amazing. They received scores of 9’s from Carrie Ann and Julianne while Bruno gave them a 10. Julianne called it breathtaking, Carrie Ann says that Bindi makes each and every dance a moment in her life and Bruno loved it.
It is elimination time! I am guessing that either Paula or Gary will go home tonight! Surprisingly, the first couple in jeopardy is Carlos and Whitney! Huh? I don’t think anyone saw that coming. Gary and Anna are the next couple in jeopardy and ultimately the ones who go home tonight!
