Five Epic Movies Like Lord of the Rings

The Hobbit

The Hobbit is based on a novel, written 1937. It takes place in the fictional world of Middle-earth and follows the quest of Bilbo Baggins and 13 dwarves. A wizard convinces Baggins to go off and attempt to take back possession of Lonely Mountain, which is under the control of a fiery dragon.

This film originally debuted in New Zealand in 2012. A whopping 100,000 moviegoers (those who didn’t have tickets) stood on the red carpet in front of Courtenay Place theater, watching the premiere via the Internet. To say there was much excitement and anticipation surrounding the event is a definite yes understatement.

Willow

Willow premiered in 1988. As you might guess from the name of the movie, you’ll be introduced to a hobbit-like being known as Willow. He must go on a quest to save a human baby. It wouldn’t be so bad except for the ghouls and goblins he encounters along the way. Val Kilmer plays the role of a somewhat rebellious hero whose job it is to keep Willow safe during this big adventure.

The Chronicles of Narnia

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe is based on the works of C.S. Lewis, a popular children’s author. It’s a movie about four British children who stumble across a seemingly ordinary wardrobe, which magically transports them all to the fantastic land of Narnia.

Once they arrive, they meet and become friends with a lion named Aslan. The five of them band together to fight the White Witch known as Jadis. Watch the film to discover everyone’s fate. The ending will surprise you!

Raiders of the Lost Ark

The original Indiana Jones film, Raiders of the Lost Ark, hit theaters in 1981. This action-adventure movie (with some fantasy thrown in) paved the way for three more titles in the franchise. Follow Indiana Jones, played by Harrison Ford, as he does his best to battle a group of Nazis who are looking for something called Ark of the Covenant… a treasure that Adolf Hitler thinks will make his military bullet-proof.

Dark Crystal

If you’re a fan of Jim Henson and his band of Muppets, chances are you’ll probably enjoy watching Dark Crystal. You’ll meet a group of elf-like creatures who go on a journey to get their hands on a magical dark crystal. It’s the one thing they need to restore peace and tranquility to their world.
