Hydrate Your Skin With Water

In the summer months, I always have a water bottle with me. In the winter months, it is easy to let my water habits slip away. Winter air and temperatures cause my skin to get drier, but one way I can fight winter acne is to hydrate my body on the inside. If you prefer warm drinks, try warm tea as a low-calorie alternative to keep hydrated. Trust me those lattes will not hydrate you on their own! Not only will water help you avoid breakouts, but your whole body will also feel nourished, and you can flush toxins out of your skin.

Exfoliate Gently

It is just as important to exfoliate in the winter time as the rest of the year, but you want to treat your skin a little more lightly. Your dry skin can build up quickly alongside thicker winter products we put on our skin can clog pores a little easier. Exfoliating helps keep our skin fresh and clean, but should only be in your beauty routine once or twice a week.  If your skin is bright red after you exfoliate, you may want to consider a gentler product.  I like Kiss My Face Start Up Exfoliating Face Wash, which is so gentle and never irritates my face. Trust me, you got to add it to your beauty stash.

Watch Your Style Game

If you suddenly notice you have breakouts, make sure you consider any new beauty products as the culprit. Many of us (me me me!) update our looks for winter with deep berry lipsticks, creamy foundations, and new hair products to keep your style on point. If you notice breakouts, make sure your new products aren’t causing your breakouts. I like to eliminate one product at a time from my routine when this happens so I can find the evil culprit!

Swap Your Cleaner Or Moisturizer

Another sneaky culprit to your acne problems might be your face cleanser or moisturizer. In the summer months, I can use light cleaners, but in the winter, I have to up my game. Need some ideas? To keep my skin pimple free, I trust Bioré Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser. This cleanser opens up my pores, and the small amount of salicylic acid always helps me banish breakouts. For moisturizer, I like Fresh Effects Long Live Moisture Satin Finish Lotion. This lotion feels light and smooth, and also is designed not to clog your pores.

Clean And Cozy

In the cold months, I loved pulling out the warm and soft scarves hats and mittens but did you know your fuzzy outerwear can cause breakouts. Try to choose fibers that are more natural so your skin can breathe and don’t forget to wash your gear regularly. Also, remove those wooly favorites when you go inside as moisture can get trapped by your skin and cause breakouts.

  1. Exfoliating helps me in the winter. My problem is that I get lazy and don’t always want to clean my face before bed.

  2. These definitely work, especially hydrating our skin. Moisturizers are important too. It pays to apply regularly at least for this season.

  3. I usually switch moisturizers during this time of the year. Face mists are also a must for me. 🙂
