Facts about Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The Force Awakens is set 30 years after Return of the Jedi. While it is the sequel to the 1983 Return of the Jedi, it is the first episode since the 2005 Revenge of the Sith.

There are 5 new worlds in The Force Awakens: Jakku is the desert planet where Rey lived for many years, Takodana is the location of a major battle between members of The Resistance and members of The First Order, D’Qar is the location of a major Resistance base, Hosnian Prime is the location of a lightsaber battle between Finn and Kylo Ren and Starkiller Base houses The First Order.

The Force Awakens is the 7^th installment in the Star Wars movie series. The other six movies are: Episode 4: A New Hope in 1977, Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back in 1980, Episode 6: Return of the Jedi in 1983, Episode 1: The Phantom Menace in 1999, Episode 2: Attack of the Clones in 2002 and Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith in 2005.

In The Force Awakens, there are 6 original cast members: Han Solo, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, C-3PO, R2-D2 and Chewbacca.

There are three lead characters in The Force Awakens, all new characters: Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron.

Two of the main filming locations for The Force Awakens were the desert in Abu Dhabi and Pinewood Studios in England. Pinewood Studios has been the filming location for numerous films throughout the years including Curse of the Pink Panther, Aliens, Full Metal Jacket, Tomb Raider and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

There have been two movie trailers for The Force Awakens. In the first trailer, Andy Serkis does the voiceover, includes brief action scenes from Finn, Rey and Poe Dameron and ends with the Millennium Falcon flying over Jakku. In the second trailer, Mark Hamill does the narrating and features Darth Vader’s skull, amazing shots of Kylo Ren and a damaged Imperial Star Destroyer.
